If you are really looking for a fantastic nightlife of which includes meeting up with some good-looking guys/girl, and having a good time, and such, then you might want to explore the Sunset Strip West, which starts from where L.A. and Hollywood meet, and ends at the ocean. Somewhere in the middle of these two points, you will be happy to that continuous queue (line) of bars/pubs line the street on both sides. On the other hand, if you prefer taking in an entertaining and often than not great live performance, then you would fair better by going online and going to Ticketmaster.com, there you can purchase tickets for all events coming to L.A., and so in advance. You may also check in the LA weekly newspaper, as it contains a complete list of all major events, for instance, concerts, theatre shows, opera, and bar/pub scenes, etc.

The Lava Lounge

It is situated in a small shopping center, though it may be a tiki bar/pub, it is worth checking out, simply because of the name alone. A few decent bands pass by ever now and then.

The Ivar

It is a restaurant /club bar pub, which has a real industrial look and feel about it, and the people in the crowd look hot! Almost everyone is asked to be outside as to form an imaginary queue (line). If you plan on actually making it inside, had better be there by 9pm or 9:15pm, at the latest. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat, and a beer, dance, and mingle. But be mindful of the extremely strict dress code enforced here. No jeans or sneakers are allowed.

Borders

This is the oldest bar/pub in all of the Hollywood area, dating back to the late 1920's to early 1930's. Also, this is an ideal spot to grab a burger and cheap cold beer. On top of that, there is no real dress codes enforced, and affordable, no cover charge, however the club right next door charges a $6 cover fee. Borders used to be a speak-easy, where they continued to serve alcohol, despite the prohibition law.

The Whiskey (A GO GO)

More rock and roll history has taken place in this one building than in most of the cities throughout the US, as a whole. There are the Go-Go girls which dance in metal cages, and wear mini skirts. It was established in the early 1960's, and a mad craze of national chains Whiskey a GO GOs sprung up. By the way, during the time when the Doors were popular, and climbing up the charts, they performed here rather frequently. Just about all the major and not so major acts played here at one time or another, throughout the 1960's. And nearly every night, a different act can be seen.

The Highlands

This is a very exclusive club located on top of the Kodak Theatre, located on the corner of Hollywood and Highland, a recently constructed building. And a strict dress code is enforced here, no kidding. Even though, it may be a new club it has caught on to the Hollywood/LA scene pretty well, and has gained much success in such a short time, also has hosted many parties for the elite VIPS, and for movie premiers as well. It consists of four decks.

Garden Eden

It is another one of those trendy dance clubs. Though, the doorman is rather picky on who he will let get in, mostly guys will have to wait up to an hour to get in if at all, where as girls often get pushed to the front of the line and let in faster. After you do manage to get inside, you find that all the people range from 21-26 years of age.

Miyagi's

It is a Japanese themed restaurant/bar (pub), which consists of 3 levels, 5 sushi bars, 2 liquor bars, where you can grab a drink. You can try the house favorite called Sake Bomb, it is quite the experience.

Pinks

As soon as you turn around the corner of Melrose/La Brea, you cannot miss the long queue (line) extending from the Pink since it opened its doors back in 1939. Chili dogs, fries, burgers, all the imaginable and often unimaginable food can be found here. Most of the items on the menu are between $3~$4.

Lucky Strike Lanes

It is slowly becoming popular in the whole LA/Hollywood scene, especially since it is a part of the Hollywood/Highland complex. The people are very friendly, and may talk to you even if you are not a part of their crowd. There is no real hassle on getting in; a brilliant layout of bowling lanes and billiards (Pool) tables can be found as well. This is definitely the place to go if you just wish to keep it simple or consider yourself to be average.

The House of Blues

This well-lit, semi-casual restaurant which shares its space with a mini bar/pub, it is a very peaceful and tourist friendly place. Here, you can eat and enjoy a nice meal, as you sip at a cold beer, and relax. By the way, what many people do not know is that in the basement is room which houses a stage where many acts come and play live music.

The Formosa Cafe

It is situated in Hollywood, right on the boulevard, and it has been open since the early 1930's, and it is dimly lit and casual lounge with a gritty charm about it, especially since it was built into a 1902 Trolley Car.

Sky Bar

By the way, if you are a true budget traveler, then you may want to look for another place to hang out, as it will break your wallet, and also they are quite selective on who gets in and who does not.This bar is situated in the Mandarine Hotel, and the ideal way of bumping into some truly rich people, and blockbuster making headlines, is by passing through a seemingly plain white gate.Now, like I said at first, if you are not either rich or have some of the latest fashion or chic clothes, then you may try and find a reasonable place. This is not an affordable venue by any means.
